Renting a campervan in Europe
Our 2026 Anywhere Campers experience
Who to rent with?
For our 2026 European adventure, I decided to shop around for where to rent our campervan from. Once again, for our 3rd year in a row, I came to the conclusion to rent from Anywhere Campers. This year we rented it for 22 days and traveled throughout Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy and France. (Click here to see original post about renting with Anywhere Campers.)
Why choose Anywhere Campers?
EVERYTHING is included with Anywhere Campers. There are no hidden fees. The rental automatically includes all the bedding for all the beds; towels (including a kitchen towel); cooking supplies including dishes, pots/pans, silverware; cleaning supplies; toilet paper; tablets for the chemical toilet; extra-long electric cord; water hose; 2 bikes; and outside table and chairs. You also get unlimited mileage and the vignettes for Switzerland and Austria. We had to buy the vignette for Slovenia, but it was very inexpensive (less than $23).
I love that they will drop off and pick up the campervan wherever you choose. This year we flew in and out of Munich, Germany. Our flight was delayed a couple of hours arriving in Munich. The driver was fantastic and actually picked us up from the airport and then took us to a gas station to go over everything and do the campervan handover. To drop off the campervan, I like to find a hotel that has parking for the campervan and Anywhere Campers comes right there to pick it up, at the time I set (for us this year at 7pm).
They don’t need to know all the information right away when you book. I let them know where to meet for pick up and drop off about 2 months in advance. Also, if you need to change the city for pick up or drop off, they are pretty flexible in that too. Keep in mind that if you change the city, your price will change as well.
I was very appreciative that our campervan had air conditioning in the living area. We were in France during their insane heat wave. When we stayed at a campground and hooked up to electricity we could run the AC, which worked great. (Funny enough, we also stayed at a couple of locations where I had to run the heater in the morning because it was too chilly – which also worked great).
I think our campervan this year was BRAND new, with only 429 kilometers on it when we got it. It was fun to think we were the first family to use everything. We drove a total of 3,539 kilometers (2,199 miles).
Thankfully, this year we didn’t have any issues, and our security deposit was credited back to us before we even got home! (Two years ago we were broken into, and the thieves broke 2 windows. We (understandably) had to wait a couple of weeks while Anywhere Campers figured out how much the repair would be. They were great about it, and the repair bill was very fair. We also got reimbursed by our travel insurance.)
Campervan Models
The first two years we chose the Adria Matrix and then the Carado T447 model (both have the drop-down bed over the dining table). This year we chose the Sunlight A70, which is the over-cab bed model. We had our 8-year-old son with us, which is why we chose the over-cab bed. We would choose this model again for many reasons:
- It was great that our son had his own space, and we didn’t have to pull the bed down and make it every night.
- We could still use the campervan when he was in bed. (In the other models, we could still go outside, but we had to dunk down under the bed).
- The kitchen was a lot bigger.
- There was a LOT of storage in this model. (So much so we didn’t even use it all). The garage storage felt the same.
These are the disadvantages we found in the Sunlight model compared to the drop-down bed model in the Adria/Carado:
- The bathroom felt a lot smaller in the Sunlight. It was not a wet bath, but the shower and toilet were in the same room and just felt a lot more cramped. We enjoyed the bathroom in the other models better.
- In the Adria and Carado, the bathroom door could also be used to separate the front of the campervan and the back. It was very convenient for changing clothes or creating privacy when our son went to bed before us. The door for the Sunlight bathroom did not do this, and the only privacy between the back bedroom and the living space was a curtain.
- The back bed in the Adria and Carado was A LOT bigger – about a king size all together. In the Sunlight, the back bed was tiny. I would say a double bed size, and the back part of the bed had the overhang from the storage units, so it made it feel smaller. The Adria/Carado models also had two windows in the back that created great airflow (vs. one window in the Sunlight). In the Sunlight there was also a ladder that you had to climb down every time (vs. stairs in the other model). We definitely missed the back bed setup in the other models.

Summary
Overall, for next year, we will again choose the Sunlight model as our son will be with us. The convenience of having a permanent bed and him having his own space and the kitchen size outweighed the disadvantages. If it was just my husband and I, I would definitely go with the Adria or Carado models. (FYI – Anywhere Campers does carry the smaller van-like campers if you wanted something on the smaller side).

I know from shopping around, that Anywhere Campers can be more expensive. But I will say they are worth every penny. They are always very responsive to all my questions and working with them on both pick up and drop off has been very pleasant.
To get a quote, you have give them pick up and drop off locations so they can calculate the rental price. I know pricing does change based upon how far you are from Prague, their base. This makes sense as driving to Barcelona would be more expensive than driving to Munich. When planning, I look for the best flights and deals from the United States. It is nice knowing I can fly into any airport and they will find me. I also really like that I don’t have to do a round trip and return to where I arrived.
